Perth, while a long way from anywhere, is a fabulous place for shopping, going out and enjoying amazing weather! Perth is ‘BIG ON BREAKFASTS’! So make sure you get up early, go for a run along the beach and then have breakfast at either John St Café at Cottesloe, or Beaches on Marine Pde, Cottesloe. Most shopping areas have great spots for lunch/ eating out. Fremantle has a fabulous connoisseur ice-cream shop with a great ‘cookies and cream’ and King St is lined with lots of great coffee shops, so you can keep your caffeine levels up for some productive shopping! Some other great spots to stop by for coffee/lunch/shopping are Bay View Tce, Claremont and Napoleon St, Cottesloe. The shopping and fashion in Perth is fantastic! We have the best select...

Editor's Choice - The Beach House, Shoalwater Bay

There are certain places that make you let out a sigh of relief as soon as you see them, knowing that all your holiday boxes have been ticked. Well, the Beach House at Shoalwater Bay is definitely one of those. With its absolute waterfront location and stunning 180 degree view of the bay and its islands, this house is the answer to the dreams of every stressed, busy and wrung-out holiday seeker. You could be forgiven for thinking that you are miles from anywhere, but the delights of Perth are only 40 minutes away, and the area abounds in things to do and see. The House was originally a “renovator’s delight” that the inspired and talented owners have turned into a retreat from the everyday. With such a magnificent location it is the ideal place for a ...

Buccaneer Archipelago
Broome,
North West & Kimberley,
Western Australia
By Adrienne Costin
Rate this article from 1 to 5 by clicking on the colour bar:
The Buccaneer Archipelago is a stunningly rugged area off the Kimberley coast in Western Australia, consisting of up to 1000 islands. The scenery is spectacular with secluded white sandy beaches, patches of rain forest, mangrove estuaries, plunging cliffs, indigenous rock art and hidden reefs that litter offshore waters. Situated approximately 2800 kilometres north of the Western Australian capital of Perth, its distant location has meant it has remained an unspoilt and remarkably pristine location to explore and experience. Tides of up to 11 metres are among some of the biggest in the world, and certainly the largest in Australia. In some places they are treacherously strong and unpredictable, surging up rivers and ripping through inland passages. These tides create such phenomena as...

Esperance - Natural Beauty
Perth Region,
Western Australia

At Lucky Bay in the Cape Le Grand National Park, even the kangaroos appreciate the sun, sand and water. They are regularly spotted lazing beachside and keeping visitors at the nearby camp ground entertained. While a trip to Esperance is worth it just for its magnificent coastline there is much more to see and do. There are four national parks within easy reach of the town – Stokes Inlet, Peak Charles, Cape Arid and Cape Le Grand. Bushwalking, camping, fishing and bird watching are popular activities and there is plenty of four wheel drive action to be had – some of the best is along a stretch of pristine beach in Cape Le Grand National Park. You can drive yourself, but for local knowledge and country style hospitality jump on board the Aussie...

Perth

Western Australia

The city of Perth is a gem nestled on the banks of the Swan River and its marvellous location is at the heart of the character of this most unusual of Australia’s capital cities. The nearest large city to Perth is Adelaide, which lies over 2000 km away and it is this isolation that has allowed Perth to develop such a distinctive personality. Lying about 20 km inland from the sparkling Indian Ocean, Perth enjoys an unparalleled climate and is classed as one of only five Mediterranean climate regions in the world. Summers tend to be hot and dry, and most rain occurs in winter, however the temperatures still hover around 18-19 degrees C, so winter is still a fine time to visit. The city enjoys a wonderful quality of light, making it a favourite with artists and photographers. ...

Even though the Perth metropolitan area continues to grow, there are still many opportunities to enjoy nature within its boundaries. Nearer to Nature is a program run by the Department of Conservation and Land Management to encourage us to go exploring in and around Perth’s natural areas. The program includes opportunities for groups to book their own guided activities in places like Mundaring, Bibra Lake, North Beach, Trigg, Rockingham and Shelley. You can sample the sights and sounds of the forest around Mundaring by joining the Forest by Night activity. You’ll learn all about the night sky and stellar navigation, as well as picking up some bush survival tips. For those wanting to learn even more about going bush, the Bush Survival Skills course is a good option...

Perth Summer Holiday
Sunset Coast,

Reclining with my sandy feet on the open window frame of a beachside bar along the coast of Perth, I sip a glass of cool local wine and indulge in one of the world’s truly most magnificent views. Beneath me the Indian Ocean greets the pure white of Cottesloe Beach. Two young boys paddle at the water’s edge, refusing to relinquish the summer’s day that is already giving itself over to evening. The sun is now a disc of deep orange slipping into the ocean and throwing off a golden light against the darkening sky. It is still; the afternoon sea breeze didn’t turn up. Probably, like me it just decided to take a day off. A Perth summer holiday is about lazy days spent by the sea and warm nights strolling on the beach or dining in alfresco restaurants....
