Review - Review – Lakesea Park
By Bruce Mumford

Durras Lake Road South Durras NSW   Lakesea Park is in a wonderful location, as the name implies, between the pristine beach and Lake Durras.   Overall rating?       Outstanding   What makes Lakesea Park different? The wonderful bush surroundings and the benefit of both lake and sea frontage are the standout features of this holiday park. Lakesea Park is serene and the plentiful wildlife is a bonus.   Accommodation overview Our Seaside Cabin had ramped access, although the entrance and interior is not really made for disabled access. While the cabin is roomy, there are no grab rails or wheelchair facilities.   The cabin was clean, modern and well appointed, with three bedrooms. Two bedrooms have queen-size beds and an ensuite each a... Read more

Canberra on wheels!
By Bruce Mumford

I first stayed in Canberra (ACT) when I was researching my History thesis in 1979.  Back then I wasn’t in a wheelchair - but I did rely on wheels for mobility; all I had to get around on was my pushbike. Canberra is ideal for accessible travel as the paths and their coverage are excellent.  As befits a national capital, access just about everywhere is taken for granted. There are just too many sightseeing spots to cover, so before you start, a good place to visit would be the Canberra Visitors Centre on the edge of Lake Burley Griffin; right in front of the Captain Cook Fountain at 330 Northbourne Avenue. Some of the major attractions you might want to see which have good access, disabled parking and toilets would include Parliament House  (take the lift up to the ro... Read more

Whew! - honeymoon options need to be as modern and flexible as weddings have become. And they can be! First, decide what you want &... Read more

By Lisa Monk

Holidays are all about making wonderful memories that get us through the daily grind until the next time you take a break. If you are looking for a holiday that will live in your memory forever, then look no further than the historic and welcoming Heritage Guesthouse at South West Rocks. Located on the rim of Horseshoe Bay and only 5 hours north of Sydney or 51/2 hours south of Brisbane, this is the ideal place to break your journey if you are travelling up the east coast.  However, there is so much on offer in the region and the guesthouse is such a refuge from the everyday that you may wish that you had booked in for a few days to refresh and revive. The Southern Highlands - access all areas!
By Bruce Mumford

The beautiful Southern Highlands region lies to the southwest of Sydney on top of the escarpment overlooking the South Coast.  The region enjoys four distinct seasons and stunning scenery ranging from native wilderness to cool misty pastures reminiscent of England, to hidden valleys with remarkable waterfalls.  All this and only 2 hours away from Sydney! There are many reasons why you should visit the Southern Highlands aside from its rolling green farmscapes and rugged natural beauty.  There are historic villages, superb gardens (and special events like the Tulip Festival held in late September when many gardens are open for display). There’s a wide range of accommodation - everything from farmstays to motels, and antique and book shops that entice you in - with enou... Read more

The Yarra River Shuttle Service
By Parks Victoria

"From the Yarra River you get a whole different perspective of Melbourne." Vin Wright, District Chief Ranger, City and Waterways. At the centre of a capital city of three million people, Melbourne's Central Business District bustles and buzzes at all hours. Trams compete with cars and buses, which compete with pedestrians, bicyclists, skateboarders and skaters, joggers and even the odd horse and carriage; all of which move at a pace and with a purpose through the streets and lanes of this big, confusing city. As a state capital very generously endowed with parklands, there are quite a few venues for quietude in Melbourne. One of the most novel, relaxing and interesting however, is the new Yarra River Shuttle Service, a ferry service that takes advantage of the wide water road... Read more

Active seniors, action-packed holidays
By Penny Parsons

Need to get away but want to make sure the access, activities, attractions and facilities where you are going meet your needs? Not to mention finding a great deal!   Reports that we are all living longer and most of us are getting about more freely than our parents could at our age (yippee!). The great news is that we are taking advantage of our good health and traveling more, and for longer. For some of us this is thanks to a financial boost from our compulsory superannuation funds. Better health and more money give us the flexibility to keep on having fun and lets hope it stays that way!   According to the National Visitor Survey conducted by the Bureau of Tourism Research, “The increase mobility and longevity of senior Australians and the financial boost of pay-outs ...
