Old Bara Road via Mudgee
New South Wales

You feel as though you are the only people around - there is no sign of other houses, just paddocks and grazing cattle, which gives an amazing sense of peace and quiet. There are wonderful views of the Mudgee hills and the property.

Overall rating?    Excellent, with outstanding ambience and cleanliness

What makes Old Bara different?

The sense of peace and seclusion makes this a very relaxing place. It feels as though you are living on your own farm and the feeling of privacy is very relaxing. The house is set in 1300 acres and there is plenty of wildlife, including kangaroos, wombats and hares.

Accommodation overview
Old Bara has four bedrooms, two have queen-size beds, one has a double bed and the fourth room has two single beds. There are two bathrooms and two separate toilets (one is your classic country outdoor loo!).

Facilities overview
The house is in a large fenced area with an established garden, and the paddocks stretch beyond. The huge verandahs are a great vantage point for sitting and relaxing; there is a swing set for the kids and undercover parking for three cars.

The house has two separate living areas and a large and well-equipped kitchen. You really feel a part of the country and there are views from every window.

There is reverse cycle air-conditioning throughout, fans in the bedroom for those who prefer them and a wonderful log fire for the coolers months… so you will be comfortable all year round.

Location
Old Bara is 25 minutes from Mudgee, which is 3.5 hours from Sydney.

Suitable for children?        Yes, there is a fully fenced yard, portacot, plastic cups and plenty of room for the kids to run wild.

Suitable for pets?               Yes, dogs are allowed inside - but not in the bedrooms, the yard is secure and the property owners (who live just up the road) have a secure dog run and they are happy to dog sit if you want to go out for a while. They have two friendly Labradors who will play with visiting dogs.

Wheelchair access?            No

Perfect for?

Families, couples, groups, extended family, people wanting to get away for privacy and have the place to themselves.

Why stay longer?
There are lots of well-signposted walking tracks and the area is great for mountain bike enthusiasts.  It is a great place to get away and just relax with family or a group of friends. We loved relaxing on the verandah and watching the wildlife, and there are plenty of wineries and cafes and restaurants in Mudgee if you want to go further afield.  Historic Rylstone is only 25 minutes away by car.

We cooked up a storm in the gourmet kitchen, which had everything we needed – and discovered the herb garden as well!

Why you wouldn’t stay longer?
If you are looking for nightlife, you would need to head into Mudgee,  25 minutes away.

Pricing
From $200 per night, but the rates vary seasonally so check the Old Bara Guesthouse accommodation listing for details. Old Bara also offers special deals for families and is a great place for the kids to explore the country.

Comments
I've been to this place and it's a proper country getaway - great space for everyone, and really good for mountain biking getaways!

Mudgee also has some great pubs for Sat or Sunday lunches, so you can really make a weekend, or a week of it - lots to do.
