Willowgatehall Luxury B&B
Step back in time to a thoroughly modern guesthouse and enjoy the history and luxury of Willowgatehall. Located in the heart of Scone in the Upper Hunter Valley, the hall was for many years the cultural heart of Scone.
Built in 1873, a new façade was added in 1988 as part of the celebrations for the centenary of the founding of the colony. The Hall was well known for its expansive library and was home to the debating competition of the area for some time. In fact the Hall has several claims to fame, not least being that Banjo Patterson performed there, Mark Twain (author of Huckleberry Finn) delivered a lecture at the Hall in 1895 and it was the site of the first meeting of the Scone Municipal Council in 1888.
And this heritage-listed landmark is also a landmark of luxury. Lovingly refurbished, it offers five rooms of varying configuration, can accommodate up to 11 people and is a wonderful example of hosted accommodation.
Willowgatehall has a suite with a queen-size bed and its own bathroom and sitting room; one room has a double bed and king single and an ensuite and the three other rooms have queen-size beds and share a bathroom.
Theresa & David Ward are the hosts and they have turned the Hall into luxurious accommodation with a difference. The rooms are fully air-conditioned and offer fine linen and towels, gourmet meals are available courtesy of Theresa’s considerable talents and guests also enjoy afternoon tea or a pre-dinner drink on arrival and a full continental breakfast.
For those who wish to laze around in historical splendour – look no further! There are beautiful gardens to be enjoyed, a swimming pool, a fireplace to chase away the cold in the winter months, while relaxing with the books, newspapers and board games provided.
If you can tear yourself away from Willowgatehall, you will be rewarded with the rich variety of activities on offer in the region. There is great shopping nearby, highly regarded restaurants and cafes and it is only a short walk to a nearby course for golfing enthusiasts. Also nearby is Glenbourne Dam where you can fish or hire a boat and Theresa and David are happy to arrange for guests to be picked up from the house for horse-riding and stud tours, wineries visits and more.
In fact this beautiful part of the Hunter Valley offers so much more than the wineries alone. Facilities available include beauty spas, tennis courts, the Scone racecourse, and the town plays host to the Aberdeen Highland Games each July. Why not pay a visit to Willowgatehall and make your own history?
