This wonderful property has all the serenity of its past life as a church, including the original front door. It is beautifully decorated and has wonderful outdoor surrounds to complement the attractive interior.

Overall rating?    Outstanding

What makes Church House B&B different?

Well, the name gives it away – its previous life as a 1930s Methodist church lends an aura of peace and tranquillity – just what you are looking for on a relaxing holiday. The property is immaculately clean and has everything you need for a comfortable and memorable stay. We arrived at night and the property was well-lit and warm and welcoming.

Accommodation overview
The three bedrooms all have queen-size beds, as well as ensuite bathrooms with a toilet, hand basin and spacious shower. All rooms have their own TV, meaning you can relax in solitude, if that is what you are looking for.

Facilities overview
The lounge room is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the complimentary wine and chocolates, DVDs, books, cards, games, CDs and videos. Or you can choose to wander outside to the front deck, outdoor patio or huge garden. There are many lovely little outdoor alcoves to discover… perfect for a quiet daydream or time out with a book.

A cooked breakfast (cooked by the hosts) is available for all guests, alternatively there are continental provisions. There is a full kitchen should you choose to self-cater for a longer stay, or if you are staying as a group.

Location
The Church House B&B is perched on a one-acre hillside block, just a short walk from Gundagai’s town centre, and overlooking the Murrumbidgee River flats.  Gundagai is around 90 mins from Canberra, 3.5-4 hours from Sydney or 5 hours from Melbourne. It is perfectly located at the start of the Snowy Mountains touring route.

Suitable for children?    No

Suitable for pets?           No

Wheelchair access?       No,
there are steps both at the entry and within the property.

Perfect for?

This is an ideal stopover for those taking a slow trip between Sydney and Melbourne. The route is a great alternative to the Hume Highway and takes in towns and hamlets such as Tumut, Tumbarumba, Corryong and Beechworth.

It would be a great location for couples or a group of friends celebrating a special occasion and is the perfect getaway for people working in the ACT, considering its proximity to Canberra. Church House B&B is very popular with wedding groups and the unusual setting makes for wonderful photographs.

Why stay longer?
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay as a stopover on a romantic road trip. The hosts are wonderful people who are there when you need them, but not at all intrusive. We loved eating breakfast outside, enjoying the view over the town. You can choose to relax with a book in one of the many lovely outdoor spots or wander into town and enjoy the shops, galleries and restaurants.

There is a lot to see in Gundagai… starting with the famous ‘Dog on the Tuckerbox’, of course! Enjoy a walking tour, which takes in the historic buildings, or be a tourist on the Snowy Valley Way drive and drop in at some great wineries. There is a lot of history to enjoy in this ‘bushranger’ region and the Prince Alfred Bridge – built in 1866 and at the time the longest timber bridge in Australia – still spans the Murrumbidgee. It was part of the Hume Highway until 1977 and although you can no longer drive over it, it is still a spectacular example of one of the longest timber viaducts in the southern hemisphere.

Why you wouldn’t stay longer?
We were on a stopover on our way to Victoria, but can’t think of a reason why you wouldn’t want to spend more time relaxing in this glorious property.
