Review - Chiltern Lodge

A real treat!

Chiltern Lodge Country Retreat, Metz Rd, Old Bar, North Coast NSW, Australia

Chiltern Lodge Country Retreat is hidden on 25 acres just ten minutes from Taree and five minutes from Old Bar Beach. Arriving at the retreat you feel like you are really about to begin your holiday, access is easy to unpack the car (and yes, they have an ‘accessible’ cabin too), the fans were on to cool the rooms and a supply of ‘little extras’, chocolate, honey and port were an added bonus. The first night we were offered welcome drinks (for the kids too) on our deck.

The property was clean, the ambience excellent, facilities more than we could ask for and the hosts had a great attitude and attention to detail (even with mosquito spray and sunblock were provided for guest use).

Overall rating: Excellent!

What makes Chiltern Lodge Country Retreat Different?
This property is perfect for a family getaway, or a group of families getting together. The accommodation and entire property is practical for children and set up to encourage relaxation and social interaction.

The property was incredibly well set up for children, it’s away from the road so you don’t have to worry about traffic. We were supplied with portacots (made up with linen and blankets), high chairs, plastic plates and cups, baby monitors and more – the potato masher was also a bonus.

We spent a great deal of time ‘hanging out’ on the sloping grass lawn with plenty of shade, the hen house, badminton court, children’s cubby with plenty of toys and bicycles kept the kids occupied most of the time, not to mention the time they spent wallowing in the pool and spa. The property also includes a selection of on-site walking tracks and if you’re really energetic you can take a mountain biking adventure (bikes supplied at no extra charge) to the beach.

Accommodation
There are four two-bedroom self-contained cabins that make up Chiltern Lodge Country Retreat, each of them sleeps up to six and has a queen or double in the master bedroom plus a variety of bunks and single beds in the second room, depending on which cabin you stay in. The cabins can be rented separately, with all guests having access to ‘lodge’ facilities, or you can book out the whole place.

Each cabin had a wood fire for the cooler months and a sizeable living area with dining table for six, self contained kitchen, washing machine and clothes line. Each cabin has a covered outdoor deck with outdoor setting that overlooks the pool area.

Accommodation included linen, with the beds made up, all we had to do was bring in our clothes and pop the food in the fridge.

Facilities
The retreat had a range of facilities for the enjoyment of all guests including a large common games room with a ping pong table, pool table, wood fire, plenty of magazines, books and toys for the kids as well as a separate TV/video room. Outside there was a fenced pool and heated spa, a badminton court, three separate and large gas barbeques, sheltered picnic tables, a hen house, pigeon roost and mountain bikes available for riding.

Location
Chiltern Lodge Country Retreat is in Old Bar, approximately 4 hours drive from Sydney and one hour south of Port Macquarie. View more North Coast NSW accommodation.
