Editor's Choice - Heartland Cottage

Home is where the Heart(land) is!

Stretch out in your queen size bed and relish that all you can hear are the sounds of nature!  Heartland Cottage is a balm to the soul of everyone who leads a hurried, stressed and frenetic life … and isn’t that most of us?  Well take a moment to refresh your mind, body and spirit in a fully self-contained 2-bedroom cottage set in 8 acres of serene bushland.

Heartland Cottage is about half way between Sydney and Gold Coast, in the beautiful hinterland of the Hastings River area.  It is one of those amazing properties that seem to change with the needs of those who stay there.

Do you crave peace and a re-connection with nature?  Are you looking for a stopover on your way north … one that lets you bring your dog or horse?  Do you want your kids to enjoy swimming in a stream rather than a chlorine pool?  Do you want a honeymoon that gives you all the time you need to celebrate your marriage in tranquil surrounds?  Heartland Cottage is all of these things, and more!

The cottage is fully equipped (with laundry facilities) and sleeps up to five.  There is a spacious deck overlooking the bushland, where you may spy a koala or some of the other wildlife, such as the parrots that love to be fed.  It really is a spot that is worth more than a couple of nights, as the Hastings area is rich in history and offers plenty of activities for those who want to do it all … and the cottage has everything you need to do nothing at all!

The Hastings River offers great fishing and boating, and the cottage has a herd of miniature Belted Galloways. These cattle, with their white “belt” on a black body, originate from Galloway in Scotland and are sure to delight the kids!

There are wineries nearby and the sports-minded can enjoy surfing at one of the beautiful beaches, a game of golf or bowls or a walk through the beautiful Boorganna Rainforest Reserve, which features the picturesque Rawson Falls.  And if waterfalls are your thing, then plan a visit to Ellensborough Falls – the second highest single drop falls in the Southern Hemisphere.  The Heartland hosts are happy to arrange eco tours at your request.

Only a few minutes away from Heartland Cottage lies the historic village of Beechwood, with its typical country pub and the Beechwood Store/café.  Timbertown, one of Australia’s original historical theme parks is only five minutes away from Heartland Cottage. Set amongst 87 acres of natural forest, Timbertown is an entire village, re-created to demonstrate the struggles and achievements of our pioneers. It's an authentic heritage township, where the steam train still runs, timber is still sawn and bullocks still pull their heavy loads, and the Timbertown Troupe entertains daily.
Heartland Cottage is a treasure – so you will need to plan ahead to secure a booking in the school holidays or on a long weekend.  If you are travelling from Sydney, it is about 4 hours up the F3, and only 10 minutes off the Pacific Highway.  Coming from the north, you will find the Cottage about 25 minutes from Port Macquarie.
