Review - Bawley Point Beach House

Bawley Point Beach House
Tingira Drive, Bawley Point
South Coast
New South Wales

Spectacular views and plenty to do.

This beach house has an outstanding position that makes the most of the seascape spread out before you.  The South Coast is justly famous for its swathes of glistening white sand and the Bawley Point Beach House knows how to make the most of its privileged location.

Overall rating?
Excellent

What makes the Beach House different?
I was traveling with my wife and teenage sons and there was plenty of room to keep us all happy.  The fantastic views of the coast are a draw card, but the Beach House is nicely screened for privacy and is perfect for a getaway.

Accommodation overview
The house has 5 bedrooms: three with queen beds and two with kings (one can be split into 2 singles) – all with ensuites. The flexible accommodation includes a fold-out Z-bed and a day bed in the rear reading room. There is also an outdoor shower perfect for washing the sand and salt away.  Bedlinen and towels are provided.

Facilities overview
The kitchen is well appointed with all you need to create your own gourmet meals, there is a lookout upstairs to take advantage of the 360-degree views and the lounge and dining areas are spacious and comfortable.

Location
Go south from Sydney on the Princes Highway; east from Canberra down Clyde Mountain, then north on the Princes Highway.  It is about 3.5 hours from Sydney and 1.5 hours from Canberra.

Suitable for children?
Yes, a portacot is available on request and a selection of toys, books and CDs is provided.

Suitable for pets?
No

Wheelchair access?
Limited, there is a step at the front entrance, however good circulation space inside.  Only the downstairs portion of the house is accessible and there are 3 bathrooms without steps.

Perfect for
The property is so spacious and has such flexible accommodation options that it would be ideal for extended families, family groups or groups of friends.  There is an office for those who can drag themselves away to work, but the real attraction is the view and the proximity to the marvellous beach.

Why stay longer?
You have your choice of beach and bush walking, swimming in summer and whale-watching in winter.  However the view, combined with the calm ambience of the house, means you can have a holiday without ever leaving the house.

Why you wouldn’t stay longer?
This sort of location always comes with a price tag and the Beach House may be too expensive for some to consider a long stay.  We had some minor maintenance problems with the plumbing and the fireplace.

Prices
From $450 per night in the off-peak season.  See the TakeABreak listing for details.
