What makes The Bower different?
The first impression is one of seclusion and isolation – not surprising when you consider that the cabins are sited on a wildlife refuge precinct of over 200 acres - which is complemented by the welcoming ambience of the cabins. The cabins are surprisingly luxurious yet still have a rustic and natural feel. The glass walls allow you to feel completely immersed in the striking natural environment, without any loss of privacy, due to the generous spacing between each site.
Accommodation overview
There are four cabins with 1 king bedroom and one cabin with 2 king bedrooms. There is one bathroom with a double spa bath and shower and a separate toilet. Two of the single king bedroom cabins also have a double shower recess alongside the double spa bath.
Facilities overview
Each Bower is fully self-contained with a well-equipped kitchen, (including dishwasher) private deck with BBQ and wood-fired heater. There is also a full laundry. The contemporary décor is offset with luxurious touches and the open plan design makes the most of the space and location. There is of course TV/DVD/CD if you choose to stay in and enjoy the peace and seclusion.
The generous breakfast provisions included bacon, eggs, sausages, wholemeal bread, croissants, fruit, jams, cereals, coffee, tea, milk and juice.
Location
The Bower is about 4 hours drive from Sydney, 2 hours from Canberra and 8 hours from Melbourne by car. It is between the coastal township of Moruya and the popular fishing and holiday resort town of Batemans Bay. Moruya airport is just 5kms away from The Bower, if you wish to fly via Regional Express Airlines to the South Coast.
Adjoining The Bower is the Illawong Nature Reserve which has an abundance of bird watching opportunities and bush walking trails. The reserve is home to a sea eagle’s nest and a colony of yellow-bellied gliders, which are listed as a threatened species in NSW. You may also see bowerbirds, lorikeets, kookaburras, rosellas and cockatoos.
Suitable for children? No
Suitable for pets? No
Wheelchair access? Possible, there is ramp access to the front door of 3 cabins, but they are not fully accessible. Check to see if your needs can be met.
Perfect for?
Honeymooners, couples of all ages looking for a private romantic getaway, nature lovers and anyone looking for absolute seclusion and relaxation. A selection of spectacular beaches is only minutes away and scenic North Broulee Beach is easily reached on foot and offers superb sunrise walks or surfing lessons for the more adventurous. Broulee Island also makes an interesting walk, with rockpools along its shoreline.
Why stay longer?
To sit and watch the birds, explore remote beaches and feel like the only people on them and to truly relax and re-connect in a beautiful natural environment. It would be lovely to spend a week in one of the Bowers and completely unwind and recharge. The quaint village of Mogo is nearby and an afternoon wandering through the variety of shops and cafes is a must.
Why you wouldn’t stay longer?
If you are looking for entertainment, nightlife and want to meet people, then this isn’t the place for you.
