What makes The Old Boathouse different?
Set in glorious gardens, full of birdsong and interesting little nooks to explore, the property is part of a small community of houses and has a relaxed and intimate feel that puts you in holiday mode straight away.
Accommodation overview
This house has a flexible layout, with bedrooms both upstairs and downstairs. The main bedroom, with a queen-size bed and great wardrobe space, is upstairs, while there are two more rooms downstairs, one with a double bed and the third with two single beds. The TV room upstairs and rumpus room downstairs have futons, and there is a trundle bed available that can be used in the rumpus room, boosting the number of people this lovely house could accommodate to 11.
Facilities overview
Downstairs features the sitting room, rumpus/TV room, large bathroom and toilet, laundry and there is a spacious deck outside the sitting room with recliner chairs and a hammock. The inviting gardens are full of bird-attracting native plants and unexpected nooks, offering the chance to sit and enjoy the peace and fresh air. There are lovely touches wherever you look, such as water features and wall hangings.
Upstairs there is another TV room, with a high definition plasma TV, a sitting room, dining room, bathroom and toilet and the well-equipped kitchen. There is a covered entertaining area and BBQ off the kitchen and sitting room, making this a great place to enjoy some of the local seafood, and views of the Pigeonhouse Mountain.
All windows are screened and there are fans throughout to ensure comfort. The Old Boathouse has gorgeous décor, is well-maintained and very clean and has a light and breezy feel.
Location
Burrill Lake is on the Princes Highway, about 50 minutes south of Nowra and 5 minutes on from Ulladulla. It is about 3.5 hours from Sydney, although the scenic route through Bomaderry, Gerroa and Gerringong is well worth the extra time. Canberra is a two-hour drive.
Suitable for children? Yes, although you would need to watch toddlers on the staircases (gates are provided). A portacot, some toys, board games, books and DVDs for children are provided, with a second DVD player in their own rumpus room and double doors open up to the outside area. Fully fenced garden.
Suitable for pets? No
Wheelchair access? No
Perfect for?
This lovely house with its flexible layout is perfect for families, extended families and groups of friends (perhaps three couples).
Why stay longer?
We went for lots of bike rides, as it is very flat and there are lots of paths around the lake. There are good food stores in Ulladulla and nearby Milton, choice of nice places to eat and there is a kayak supplied for guest use. It was always lovely to return to the house, enjoy the views and watch some of the new release DVDs provided.
Why you wouldn’t stay longer?
If you love nightlife, this isn’t the place for you, although the recently renovated Milton/Ulladulla Ex- Servicemen’s Club is close by and there is a courtesy bus. The highway runs beside the village of Burrill Lake, but the Old Boathouse is well away from it. The nearest patrolled beach is at Mollymook, around 10-15 minute drive away, however there is an unpatrolled beach close by.
