Mt Glorious … the name says it all! The village of Mt Glorious is just 35 kms north-west of Brisbane, yet a world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Imagine leaving the stresses of city life and being surrounded by clear air and pristine rainforest less than an hour later.
Turkey’s Nest Rainforest Cottage is the ideal antidote to our culture of ‘rush’ and a stay here will allow you to relax and find the serenity and clarity of thinking that re-connecting with nature – and one another – can bring.
Mt Glorious village is in the D’Aguilar Range and surrounded by Brisbane Forest Park, so even the drive up is picturesque; and being over 600m above sea level gives the best of both worlds – beautiful daytime temperatures and a welcome chill in the air in the evening.
Not that you will be chilly at Turkey’s Nest, as this two bedroom cottage has all you need to feel warm, cared for and completely relaxed. One bedroom has a queen-size bed, the other a double bed, and a foldout is available if needed. Just pack what you need to relax, all linen is provided and there is also a fully equipped kitchen, if you can stir yourself from contemplating nature long enough to find the energy to cook!
In summer, the verandah with its abundant birdlife is the place to relax and unwind after a day exploring the walks of nearby Maiala National Park. However if you can’t tear yourself away from Turkey’s Nest, but also want a taste of wandering through this amazing natural environment, then the property’s 15 acres of rainforest is made for you. For chillier winter nights, cosy up around the combustion heater while you enjoy the complimentary port and chocolates and choose from the range of CDs, books and games.
If you don’t fancy cooking, the village has a few dining options, such as Maiala Tea House, Mt Glorious “Food with a View” and the Elm Haus Café. You don’t even have to worry about breakfast, as Turkey’s Nest has wonderful breakfast baskets available, with a variety of cereals, yoghurt, fruit platter, freshly baked bread plus jams, milk, orange juice, ground coffee for the plunger or percolator, a selection of teas (black, green, herbal) and home-cooked muffins.
Currently there is only one cottage on the property, with another to be completed later this year. The original cottage, White Gum, is a former forestry cabin and has a delightful rustic charm; combined with all the modern conveniences to make for a memorable stay.
Turkey’s Nest is ideal for a romantic getaway, giving a couple the time and an idyllic place to concentrate on one another and the pleasure of just being together. However it is also perfect for a family break away, allowing everyone to get back in touch with nature – and one another. There is no doubt that Turkey’s Nest can be the ideal break away, whether you want to be in touch with nature, or your inner couch potato!
