  • Entrance
  • The open fireplace - and that wonderful ceiling!

Glenside Lane
Stirling, Adelaide Hills South Australia

This amazing castle-like gothic building stands majestically on a leafy street. It feels grand, whimsical and straight out of a fairytale.

Overall rating?    Excellent, with outstanding ambience

What makes Castle Keep B&B different?

Located in a relatively quiet lane in Stirling, Thorngrove Manor is surrounded by green and towering trees. The gardens and the greenery of the Adelaide Hills make you feel as though you are in your own private and compact castle in Europe.

Accommodation overview
An amazing experience! Climb the spiral staircase, marvel at the stone flagged floors and the Angaston white marble and arrive at the sleeping/living sitting area, with nine sides and a vaulted ceiling.

The 19th century oak bed is a king-size wonder, with a goose-down topper. Luxuriate in this wonderful bed, with top quality sheets embroidered with a medieval coat of arms, with the open fire blazing (if you wish) and enjoy the big LCD flat screen TV. Beyond the arched doors is a Juliet balcony – the perfect romantic place for honeymooners like us! This is a large and impressive room, beautifully appointed and stuffed with antiques. The ensuite is has a two-person spa bath – continuing the romantic theme.

There is also an amazingly ornate carved wooden four-poster bed in the room at the bottom of the tower.

Facilities overview
The downstairs room has authentic slit windows (bow and arrows at the ready, lads!) and opens on to the back garden. The kitchenette has stainless steel appliances and is suitable for breakfast – provisions for a continental breakfast are provided, such as fresh juices, lovely strawberries and fresh bread. The Grundig stereo system is superb and there is a good selection of CDs.

Location
Just 30 minutes from Adelaide airport in the Adelaide Hills.

Suitable for children?        No – it is designed for a couple or two couples

Suitable for pets?               No

Wheelchair access?           No

Perfect for?

This is the ultimate romantic escape… bring on your Robin Hood fantasies and enjoy the ambience, the antiques, the wonderful beds and the English-style gardens.

Why stay longer?
This is a complete escape into fantasy, with wonderful amenities and the nine-sided upstairs room is an absolute gem. We loved dining out, wine tasting and walking around the area.

Why you wouldn’t stay longer?
The kitchenette is really only suitable for breakfast and the living area is not spacious, but if you are honeymooners like us, that won’t worry you!

Pricing

Wow, I want to stay in a castle, especially for our honeymoon. I'll have to make some subtle hints. Or maybe a Church... like this one I found. http://www.takeabreak.com.au/ByronBayHinterland/FarNorthCoastByronNSW/The-Old-Church-Byron-Bay.htm
