Allure Beach Retreat - best eco-friendly holiday accommodation
When you find a property that fully embraces the eco-friendly philosophy and still manages to provide charming and well-appointed holiday accommodation, it is no wonder it wins the best eco-friendly accommodation section of the TakeABreak Awards. Surrounded by 50 acres of bushland, Allure Beach Retreat minimises the mark it leaves on the environment while still allowing you to relax in luxury and comfort and leave with memories of an unforgettable holiday in a magnificent location, Pennington Bay on Kangaroo Island, South Australia.
Kangaroo Island is Australia's third largest island (after Tasmania and Melville Island) and is seven times the size of Singapore, stretching 155 km from east to west, 55 km at its widest point. It is a natural wonderland brimming with rugged bushland, pristine beaches and an abundance of wildlife. Located only 13 kilometres from Cape Jervis at the tip of the Fleurieu Peninsula on mainland South Australia and 105 kms from Adelaide, it is the ideal place to plan an eco-friendly escape.
It is no surprise that the UK Sunday Telegraph called Kangaroo Island 'one of earth's last unspoilt refuges' - with more than more one-third of the Island remaining National or Conservation Park, this place is literally crawling with native wildlife in its natural habitat.
Regardless of the season you choose to visit Kangaroo Island, Allure Beach Retreat will tempt you with delightful and comfortable accommodation designed to have minimal environmental impact. The solar-generated power, gas water heating and fresh rainwater catchment on site aim to provide you with a holiday that treads lightly on the earth. This beautifully designed modern beach house sleeps up to six people. Set on 50 acres of private bushland with walking tracks and private access to Pennington Bay beach (5 minute walk), the property is yours to explore… watch out for the native wallabies, koalas and eagles that can often be spotted.
There are two bedrooms with queen-size beds fitted with beautiful linen and a sofa bed to sleep another 2 people is available. A fully equipped kitchen and welcome bottle of Kangaroo Island wine awaits you. Why not enjoy a glass of the wine as you soak in the claw-foot bath with a view out over the bush and down to the bay? An outdoor heated shower (also with a view!) will allow you to keep your eyes transfixed on the beauty of the landscape, even as you shower. TV/VCR/DVD and stereo are all provided, as is a BBQ and a wood fire allows you keep warm and snuggle up in the chilly months. Dogs are allowed and are welcome both inside and outside the house.
The island provides countless opportunities for relaxation and exploration. You can surf, swim, fish or watch the dolphins at play at Pennington Bay beach or explore the gourmet food trails or visit the wineries dotted around the island. A trip to Admiral’s Arch and Remarkable Rocks or Cape Willoughby lighthouse is memorable and crystal clear water, sandy beaches and secluded coves can all be enjoyed while sailing the waters of Kangaroo Island. Nepean Bay has all year-round sheltered cruising for day sailing. There are some fantastic opportunities for some of the best temperate-water diving in Australia, with the chance to see one of the 50 recorded shipwrecks that have occurred off the Island’s coastline.
Allure Beach Retreat is truly an unforgettable property set in a remarkable landscape, which is fitted with eco-friendly facilities that tread lightly upon this pristine environment
