Review - Twenty Red Chapel

Old world charm – with all the mod cons.

This lovely B&B has a wonderful view of Sandy Bay, a gorgeous garden and is only 5 minutes from Hobart, making it the perfect base for an exploration of all the city has to offer.

Overall rating?  Outstanding

What makes Twenty Red Chapel different?

The lovely tranquil setting in a pretty suburban location on top of a hill and the welcoming and helpful hosts made this a very enjoyable place to stay, with all the comforts of home and none of the responsibilities.  Could easily have stayed longer!

Accommodation overview

This is a beautiful Edwardian house and the guest wing comprises two rooms, one with a double bed and the other with two single beds.  Both are warm and welcoming and have an old world charm that adds to the experience.  There is a large bathroom with a deep bath and separate shower, along with bathrobes and toiletries.

Facilities overview

There is a breakfast/dining room with a kitchenette for those who wish to self-cater.  There is also a large comfortable lounge/TV room (which opens onto the balcony) with a lovely gas fire, and both rooms offer a beautiful view of Sandy Bay.  A full continental breakfast is offered, but with lots of extra touches like the gorgeous home-stewed apricots and really good coffee.  There are also complimentary crisps to enjoy as you relax while watching a DVD.

Location

Twenty Red Chapel, 20 Red Chapel Avenue, Sandy Bay, Tasmania. Take the freeway from the airport and you are there in about 20 minutes.  It is an easy and well-signposted drive.

Suitable for children? Yes,
Suitable for pets? No
Wheelchair access? No – there is a wide, gentle flight of stairs up to the house.

Perfect for

Relaxing on the outside deck and enjoying the view of the bay and the sights and sounds of the beautiful garden.  It is perfect for any group, but would be ideal accommodation for a family

Why stay longer?

The atmosphere of the property was really welcoming and made me relax into holiday mode very quickly.  It is a great base from which to explore Hobart and surrounds, such as the Salamanca Markets and Battery Point area.

Why you wouldn’t stay longer?

The accommodation is not totally separate from the house, which may make some people feel they are lacking privacy.  On a short stay this wasn’t an issue and in fact the hostess, Lynne, was very helpful and a fount of local knowledge.
