Review - Pender Lea Chalets

Pender Lea Chalets
Alpine Way, Thredbo Valley, Snowy Mountains
New South Wales

You’ll want to return time and again.
Pender Lea Chalets are secluded, traditional Swiss-style chalets in gorgeous bush surrounds that give you the feeling of being close enough to the action, without always having to be in the thick of things.  It is just off the Alpine Way on a bush property that is also popular for horse-riding in the summer.

Overall rating?  Good

What makes Pender Lea different?
I was traveling with six friends and the chalet was ideal for that, but would equally suit the family as an ideal place to stay for a ski holiday or a bush experience. The property consists of several self-contained chalets of differing configurations to cater for different needs.

Accommodation overview
Pender Lea offers a range of accommodation from 2 and 3 bedroom chalets with loft, to park cabins – so a range of budgets is catered for.  Our chalet had 2 bedrooms each with ensuite, plus three single beds in the loft and an additional single in the dining room.  The beds in the two bedrooms can be configured as twin single or one king.

Quality linen and towels are also provided.

Facilities overview
Pender Lea Chalets have all you need to be comfortable in the ski season, including a drying room, open fire, log interiors, under-floor heating, spa and sauna which make it perfect for relaxing after a hard day on the slopes.

Other facilities include a kitchen and laundry, dining room and lounge room.  Cots and high chairs are available at an extra cost.  There is a separate toilet and shower in the spa area.

Location

Take the Snowy Mountains Highway through Cooma and Jindabyne, then the Alpine Way just after Jindabyne and after Crackenback Cottage look for the large Pender Lea Chalets sign on your right.  It is about 5 hours from Sydney and 10 minutes on from Jindabyne.  The ski tube is only 5 minutes away.

Suitable for children? Yes

Suitable for pets? On application

Wheelchair access? No

Perfect for
The chalets are perfect for families and groups and is an ideal place for those wanting to ski at either Perisher Blue or Thredbo, as it is only 5 minutes by ski tube to Perisher/Blue Cow and 10-15 minutes to Thredbo.  With the summer horse-riding or mountain bike riding and the beautiful bush walks in Kosciusko National Park, you will never run out of things to do. Perfect for a secluded romantic getaway or a great skiing holiday.

Why stay longer?
I loved soaking in the spa, dreaming in front of the fireplace and just relaxing in the comfortable lounge room.  Having a spa to soak away the rigours of a day skiing is just bliss!  Make sure you book early as availability is limited in the ski season.  I go back to Pender Lea year after year and always enjoy all it has to offer.

Why you wouldn’t stay longer?
If you are looking for nightlife, then you may be better off in Jindabyne.

Prices
Prices vary between $204-497 per 8 people per night, but the best thing is to check the TakeABreak listing as there can be specials and rates change depending on the season
