Walton House is an historic, AAA rated, 4 1/2 star bed and breakfast in Huonville in southern Tasmania and certainly lives up to its promise of luxury. Huonville, just 35 minutes south of Hobart, is a small town known as the fruit bowl of Tasmania and produces more than 50% of Tasmania’s apples. The town (population 1,700) sits on the banks of the tranquil Huon River, surrounded by the colourful orchards. The famous slow-growing Huon pine tree can be spotted throughout the landscape and the tree and its precious timber are now protected.
The charming B&B offers a unique and relaxing experience for travellers. There are three guest suites, each with queen-size beds. The well-appointed guest rooms have their own private entry, and lots of added extras to make your stay extra special. The electric blankets, modern ensuites, thermostatically controlled heating, tea and coffee making facilities, fully stocked mini bar, DVD player with movies provided plus complimentary port and chocolates set the mood for a luxurious break. The delightful accommodation has been purpose-built to embrace the character of the original home (c1900) while providing guests with the highest standards of quality and comfort.
The lavish and freshly prepared breakfast is a treat and a great way to start the day, with its selection of homemade jams and yoghurts, along with eggs, bacon, mushrooms, smoked salmon and fresh berries sourced from local growers. Add to that a selection of leaf teas and café-style coffee and it is no wonder that people have been known to drive more than 30 minutes just to repeat this sensational breakfast experience!
Walton House is the ideal base from which to explore some of the many attractions of southern Tasmania. Just five minutes walk away you have a choice of three restaurants, as well as the Huon jet boats/pedal boats. In just over a half hour’s drive you can experience a Bruny Island boat charter ride or a walk along the unique Tahune Airwalk, which allows you to walk up in the forest canopy. The Hastings caves and thermal springs are also another highlight. Visitors can take to the river on pedal boats or raise the adrenaline level by hopping aboard a jet boat.
In season, you can test your taste buds on dozens of varieties of apples in Huonville, together with apricots, plums, cherries, pears, mushrooms, honey, wine and seafood. Better still, visit in March when the annual Taste of the Huon brings growers together to feast on their harvests.
Walton House is a first class property set in beautiful southern Tasmania. It is a ideal place to sit back, relax and revitalise or to explore the serene wilderness of the region.
