Locheilan B&B - dog-friendly dairy and cheese farm
By Sue McGorlick

At Locheilan, guests can relax completely as it is so peaceful despite being a working dairy farm. Visiting dogs love to sniff out rabbits, or just be brave behind the fence around the cows and calves. In winter, dogs also love to curl up in front of the open fire, and if they are wet and happy from outdoor activities, they get lots of towels to dry off on the verandah before coming back in. Locheilan is a traditional in-house B&B. Comfort, peace, and a lovely garden setting with wonderful birds awaits those who want a break only 200 km north of Melbourne. We make our own cheese, so taste delights await you. Guests can visit the cheesery to learn more about the making of cheese as well as tasting the whole range, not just the platter they receive on arrival. And if they wish, there ... Read more

The Ridge Gunbower
By Alan Richards

If you love peace tranquility and wildlife this is the place for you. Abundant bird life and when walking along the banks of the Gunny Creek you may spot a wallaby or two. The Gunbower Creek  is a great spot for fishing and in summer it is a popular place for swimming and water skiing. Murray cod, yellow belly and carp are often caught in the creek. Boats can be launched at the nearby boat ramp, which is just a five minute walk from the cottage. It is currently difficult to fish from the bank of the creek due to the large amount of water lilies growing in the shallow water, but we have installed a fishing jetty nearby to make it easier for those visitors without a boat to fish. Row boat, canoe and kayak are available for tenants' use at no extra charge. Kids life jackets are su... Read more

By Lisa Monk

The Murray River is an iconic part of Australia’s history and sense of self as a pioneering, bush-loving nation. At 2520km it is the longest river in Australia , and the length of this river means that it passes through many different landscapes – and offers many different experiences including fishing, cruising and relaxing on the sandy beaches. Tokemata Retreat is nestled on 50 acres beside the famous red gum forests of the Murray and offers wonderful accommodation to suit a range of needs, and the peace and tranquillity of the delightful gardens is a bonus. The region is famous for many things, including challenging golf courses such as Yarrawonga, Tocumwal and Cobram Barooga.  But it would be a mistake to think that golf is the only option in this wonderful region&he... Editor's Choice - Yarriambiack – water through the gum trees
By Lisa Monk

Australia abounds in hidden jewels and Yarriambiack (meaning water through the gum trees) is an Edwardian gem that will absolutely delight you. This beautiful homestead features rooms with old-style detail such as 14’ pressed steel ceilings, but the owners Paul & Karen have married the old with the new in seamless style. Set in 6 acres and featuring well-maintained gardens (thanks to bore water), Yarriambiack enjoys glorious bush views and yet is only minutes away from the attractions of Yarrawonga/Mulwala.  First stop should be a relaxing drink or cup of tea on the sweeping verandah, which not only features great views of the gardens and surrounding bush, but is also the ideal place to allow the cares of everyday living to slip away. The property has a heated, salt water... Read more

Editor's Choice - Strath Valley View B&B
By Lisa Monk

There are many parts of this amazing continent that call themselves “God’s own country” – and here is one more!  The Strath Valley is known as “Valley of a Thousand Hills” and once you gaze upon the horizon of seemingly endless hills, you will agree that the area is right to make such a boast. Located just an hour’s drive away from Melbourne, you quickly feel that the cares and worries of an urban life are far away, just as owners Melissa and Rob Donegan did when they moved to the area with their two children for a ‘tree change’.  Now they are proud to welcome guests to this new property that already feels a natural part of its beautiful environment. Strath Valley View B&B is a spacious red cedar cottage with floor-to-... Read more
