Tasmania is only a small island, yet it is reminiscent of so many different places. Different people see different things, but many are reminded of England, Ireland, France and more as they venture around this treasure trove of beauty.
Crabtree River Cottages are nestled at the gateway of the beautiful Huon Valley, long renowned for its amazing natural beauty, yet have the convenience of being only 25 minutes from Hobart.
A stay at Crabtree River Cottages gives you the best of southern Tasmania… the famous Huon Trail, which takes you through the Huon Valley, D'Entrecasteaux Channel & Bruny Island - a region of waterways & wilderness; art, craft & heritage; apple blossom and vineyards; farmers, foresters and fishermen – all this and more is within reach.
But first you have to tear yourself away from this gorgeous property, and that isn’t easy! Beautiful all year round, autumn is a wonderful time to visit and experience the beauty of the leaves changing as summer slides into autumn.
There is a choice of accommodation, starting with the Heritage Suite, a fully self-contained, four-star slice of Tasmanian history, located within Crabtree House. This glorious, heritage-listed homestead dates back to the 1840s and oozes history. The luxurious queen-size bedroom has views over the award-winning gardens on one side and Crabtree River on the other. The finest bedding and bathrobes are provided and the suite is centrally heated – perfect for those cold nights and chilly mornings in winter.
The living room has a kitchenette, leather lounge and flat screen TV/DVD and stereo. Beer and local wine can be purchased from the mini bar.
As well as the homestead, there are two purpose-built federation style cottages, ‘Emily’ and ‘Eliza’, which have decks with views over the river - a playground for Norman the platypus and trout. High ceilings, fireplaces, spas and luxury fit-out make the cottages a luxurious and peaceful place to stay. Both cottages have queen-size beds and the ensuites are fitted with a spa.
Crabtree River Cottages are a delightful place to stay and you may have trouble leaving to see the delights of the surrounding area, but you can always come back to the peace and serenity of the property and survey the glorious view from the verandah.
The area abounds with bush walks, you can try your hand at fly fishing in the river, or try one of the nearby golf courses… do it all or do nothing at all! Both Crabtree House and the River Cottages offer guests luxury, privacy and indulgence. Make the most of the mountains views and reward yourself with the gift of time.
Nearby is the wine region of the Huon Valley and the award-winning Home Hill winery, whose products feature at Crabtree River. For those looking for more adrenaline with their holiday, you can’t go past the Huon River jet boats, a mere 10 minutes away or the famous Tahune Air Walk, which is only 40 minutes away from the property.
The hosts left a busy life in Queensland’s heat to find more balance, and this is exactly what they offer to their fortunate guests, who will leave this award-winning piece of paradise vowing to return.
